Colibri here, this time thinking about Pinterest. I have to admit that I love it. It is shiny and pretty (I’m a muskrat at heart), and I believe it will help me build a following for the blog I’m launching (more on this later) called Things I Found on the Ground.

Can Pinterest Solve All of Your Problems?

What with all the interest Pinterest is generating, I had to wonder whether all the hype is too good to be true. What to make of the fact, for example, that it now generates more referral traffic than Twitter, according to a study quoted by TechCrunch (and don’t just read the article, read the comments, too, because they provide insight into the “controversy”).

I was pleased to find that Copyblogger, a wonderful source of high-quality information and strategy, has come through with a “dissenting” view.

News on the street and even Copyblogger published an article called 56 Ways to Market Your Business on Pinterest that gushed, “In January 2012, Pinterest drove greater traffic to websites than LinkedIn, Google Plus, Reddit, and Youtube — combined,” is that Pinterest is the newest cat’s meow, veritable manna from Heaven, the solution you can’t afford not to have. But, as I said, I’ve been wondering whether all of this is just noise.

And then Copyblogger dared to ask, Is Pinterest Traffic Worthless? This is a question I want answered, and the article leads readers through a thoughtful how-to exploring the real issue, which is that traffic without conversions is irrelevant. Ultimately, the article concludes that Pinterest does drive traffic, but that as business owners, it is up to us to have a strategy, analyze our approach and update our sites as needed to turn traffic into customers.

Key Takeaways

Does this sound like a lot of work? Colibri has said social media can be simple, but she never said it was easy.
